a question about two of my leopard geckos

jrmjjj Aug 09, 2003 03:35 PM

I have two juevinile leopard geckos in the same tank I am not sure what sex either them are but they get along very well but just the other night I noticed that they had been doing somethings that looked alot like they were mating . I think they are to young to mate yet and I was wondering if this could be bad for them to mate at a young age . Thanks for any replies .

you will know if they are mating, so i doubt it's what they were doing. the males hemipenis will come out and will go back in slowly after they do it. the hemipenis is a red thing coming out of the vent, it looks like guts. if one is a male and is visuably sexable, he can mate, but if he's really little, will probably "fail" to inseminate the female.

Mating too young can be dangerous for gex. You should try to confirm what sex they are. If one is male and the other is feamle you should seperate them, and if they are both male you should seperate them.

To sex, look underneath. If you see two bumps below the vent and a pronounced V, it is a male. If not, it is probably female.
