WINNIPEG SUN (Manitoba) 15 December 04 Pet Snake Shows Up 1,600 Km From Home
A Missouri family's pet snake, missing for a month, turned up alive in a box they had sent to New Jersey, about 1,600 kilometres away.
The box contained a DVD player that was being sent for repairs. The family believes Paco slithered into the box before they sealed it and sent it to the factory via UPS.
Sheila Himmerick said her family had been looking for the snake when she received a call from Samsung's New Jersey repair shop, CVE Inc.
Paco, a one-metre, 1.8-kilogram ball python with brown and yellow markings, had been out of sight for a month, having slithered off somewhere during one of his regular furloughs from his cage.
The disappearance was no big deal at the two-hectare Himmerick homestead, where Paco was sometimes not seen for weeks and where five cats, two birds, three dogs and one rabbit had the run of the house.
Himmerick said Paco's usual diet was three mice per week, but he didn't have to eat that often, so his skipping a few meals was not particularly troubling.
