NATIONAL POST (Toronto, Ontario) 10 February 05 Tsunami brings salt-water crocodiles inland, where they terrorize islanders
(AFP) Salt-water crocodiles are terrifying the inhabitants of a remote village in the tsunami-hit Andaman and Nicobar islands, attacking their livestock and people. Residents of New Wandoor say there are at least five crocodiles lurking in paddy fields around the village. They started by preying on goats and dogs, but have moved on to bigger prey. "In the last seven days they attacked many villagers," said villager Dulal Baroi. "Luckily no one was killed but one of us was injured." Locals killed one of the crocs after it ambushed a teenage boy who was fishing. The chief wildlife warden, Ravi Chandra, said he is investigating the crocodile attacks. "Crocodiles move from one place to another and as sea water has rushed inside this village they might have come there too," he said.
