Corn snake with respiratory infection need advice

gemqtpie Jan 07, 2006 10:05 AM

I have a 3yr old female corn snake. She has a respiratory infection her symptoms are open mouth breathing, hissing or gasping, shallow breathing, wiping her nose against the side of the tank, her back end looks puffy. She has NOT lost weight or stopped eating her activeness and apitite is normal.
I took her to the vet who put her on a course of baytrill a week adminstered in water and a week injetions. Her symptoms alieviated a little but did not clear 100% both times with the baytrill. I have added extra ventilation to her tank and added a second heat mat to keep her extra warm. The tank is bone dry and i clean her tank out every week. But now she seems to have gotten worse and is making alot of noise noise breathing. I am taking her for a third visit to the vet but i would like to be really clued up before i go. Please can you help me. Is there anything anyone can suggest that i could do or suggest to the vet? Bloodtests? Swabs? medication? please help and reply with any advice. I have had this snake since she was 3days old and dont want to lose her. thank you

I'm really sorry to hear about your snake, I'm sorry I can't be of any help but geting her to the vet is the best I can think of. You may want to try searching for information on respiratory illness in Corns and try posting this on the Us based corn forum ( http://forums.kingsnake.com/forum.php?catid=70 ) as you may get a bigger result - I'm not sure how active this forum is.

I hope your snake recovers, All the Best!!

It sounds like you took all of the necesary steps. What are your warm side temps? Keep the heat up and stay current on the vet checks.
