Lizards Hibination

I have been digging, and have dug up a little green lizard (10 cms) I want to put him back were he will not get disturbed by people again. I know that lizards hybernate at this time of year, so should I release it now and cover it with some straw to let it dig another hole, or do i keep it in a tank indoors until spring?
