Not Eating

kellywilliams May 06, 2006 08:47 AM

My leopard gecko Riptor has been in someone elses care for some time and I was horrified to collect him and find him thin, not interested in eating and not defecating. He also has some skin around his right eye that hasn't shed and so he cannot seeout of this eye. There are a few bugs in his viv but he just doesn't do much other than lie under a log. I have seen him drink though.
I've had him since he was a baby (6years) and he has never been sick before so I feel at a loss really. I hate to see him looking so poorly and don't want him to suffer so does any kind soull have any advice please?
Thanks, Kelly

Hi.

Sorry to hear your gecko is not eating.
Have you checked the temp of the tank? Increasing the temp slightly may perk him up.

It may be the case that the unshed skin is bothering him. You could try soaking him in a warm bath for a bit.

Have you tried offering him different foods like meal worms or waxworms?

The other thing to think about is taking a fresh pooh sample to the vets and asking them to check for parasites.

He is probably just a little stressed what with being looked after by someone else for a bit. If he is stressed he will not eat. He might pick up in a few days when he settles down.

Hi,
Thats a real shame for you at 6yrs. I would be devestated. If like the other member has said it may well be a stress issue, may I suggest trying 'TRex Hydro life' it comes in a small bottle with a dropper. This stuff is icu in a bottle....trust me. It contains all the ingredients to sustain life in our dear little friends. It has saved 2 of my brood in the last 6 months who suffered badly from stress related problems. It contains essential electrolytes amino acids and proteins. It really is good stuff, easy to administer and they seem to actually enjoy the taste!! Give it a try even if your into a treatment regime now from your vet. It gives leos a chance to build up from a state that would normally see them dying. Please let me know how you get on
Good luck to you and your little buddy!!
