Updates on my new heating system....

rainbowsrus Jan 08, 2007 11:24 AM

WOW, I feel like I've left the dark ages. With the new herpstat pro's controlling RHP's, I find it's way easier to maintain temps in each of the cages. With four channels and using one channel per level I'm now able to very closely control each cage. Add to that the reduced heat load, now the heat sources are all inside the cages, and even the room is cooler. I'm actually able to achieve a overnight heat drop in the upper cages. Currently the stats are set at 74 degrees with a 5 degree night drop. I find the upper level won't go all the way down to 69 but still is a few degrees cooler at night. The lower cages are all running power to maintain the 69 degree temps.

Dave that is pretty cheap for four thermostats, the wattage capacity and the ultimate cool night time drop BUILT IN (not to mention all the other goodies -USB cable..). I was reading the manual and couldn't find out how long the probe wires were . They look long in the picture but how long are they really, 10ft?

Yeah, exactly whay I thought, one herpstat pro is cheaper than two Helix (with two night-drop cords and two timers) and yes the probe cables are really long didn't measure them but I know the one to the bottom of the lower cage not only went all the way up the back, it also went all the way to the front and dangled several feet. I'd guestimate they were 10 feet long. Exactly what you ned to have a centralized controller for four heating zones. The Helix cables wouldn't even reach the lower cages in a boaphile stack unless you mount it to the side somewhere. Don't get me wrong, I like the helix units but WOW the Herpstat PRO is a fantastic unit!!!
