My First Thayeri Kingsnake!!!

JL1981 Jan 08, 2007 03:59 PM

I just purchase my first Thayeri kingsnake from a pet store. Her name is Sydney. She is very docile and tame. She is captive bred and is about 10 weeks old. I fed her as live pinky for the first time yesterday and she kept nudging it while it was laying there, until my girlfriend wiggled it with a tweezer and then she ate without hesitation (btw she was fed in a separate container so she would not associate being handled with being fed). Here are some pics of her. Let me know what you guys think!!!

I might be wrong, but she looks like she might be a Mex-Mex X Thayeri hybrid. Either way she's gorgeous. I wouldn't sweat feeding her in the same container. I've been breeding snakes since '91 and have never had a problem with it inducing aggresive behavior, especially in a Thayeri.

Ditto to everything Patton said, except I have not been feeding snakes quite as long, but no problems, and it does look to be a hybrid, and a great looking one at that.

The guy I bought her from insisted that she was a purebred Thayeri, so I don't think she is a hybrid.

Some folks think they can tell ssp. by phenotype.

Looks pure to me, but then again, that is the key, isn't it?

"looks" pure. Don't sweat it. Nice thayeri.
