Dry Heat

redbeard92 Jan 08, 2007 04:04 PM

I keep a series of reptiles in several aquariums enclosed in a large indoor greenhouse. My coolest ambient temps have been creeping into the upper 70's (the room is in the 60's)so I added a small electric space heater to knock the temp back up to 80.

Will the space heater dry the air, even though all are enclosed within a greenhouse (clear tarp-like skin)? I would rather warm the air on the floor rather than increase light wattage.

Thank you...Rob

if you are truly on top of your temps, accurately measuring, mid to high 70's is no problem : )

i tell folks to keep monitor babies with a low of 80F, but that is because i find beginners are not that good with spotting temps, and if i say 80, i feel pretty confident they will stay 70 : )

Thanks Robyn,

I like this setup because I can truly reduce basking wattage and minimize the "beef jerky" effect. I figure the space heater may dry the air immediately in front, but the system is relatively closed and all the tanks are above the air output.
