Liasis fuscus confusion

jonasgn Jan 08, 2007 05:49 PM

Hello all.
I would really like to know, if Liasis fuscus is only found in Australia, or is it found in new guinea as well.
On many websites they write it is found in both places, but i think they maybe are mixing it up with Liasis mackloti.
Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks a lot
Jonas

According to the Barkers in Pythons of the World, Volume I, Australia:

"Water pythons, Liasis Fuscus, occur along the south coast of New Guinea from the vicinity of Merauke, Irian Jaya, east through the lowlands and swamps of the Western Province to the vicinity of Balimo, Western Province, Papua."

Hi,

no, they aren't mixing it up with L. mackloti. L. fuscus really occurs around Merauke and the southern Western Province of PNG. Also, Antaresia maculosa was found at PNG.

Cheers,
Wulf
