j3nnay Jan 08, 2007 07:47 PM

Brand new purse... $20
2 weeks worth of clean laundry sitting on the bed... 3 hours
Just washed sheets and comforter... 2 hours
Three dryer fluffed pillows... 1 hour

Your snake peeing all over everything when you put her down to take off your shoes...

Priceless.

That sux!

What kind of chickens do you have?

j3nnay Jan 10, 2007 01:18 AM

At this very moment...not sure.

Prior to last night's coyote incident though, we had americaunas, barred rocks, a couple silkies, a few other breeds of hens, and one very, very ugly silkie rooster.

I haven't been down to the barn to see the carnage yet, but I think we're down to only a couple girls now.

What kind of bantams? For a while I bred Silver Duckwing Old English Game bantams. Little black and white chickens who thought they were twenty feet tall. Tried getting into showing but around that time exotic newcastle was going through and they stopped holding them.

I might still have a hen, but she either got eaten by a hawk/owl a couple weeks ago or hid a nest somewhere.

I have not figured out how to post pix here yet. The rooster & 1 hen are sex links, so she is black with red on her breast & he is red w/ black. I have 1 buff cochin hen.

I am going to try & show them as a trio at a couple fairs this summer. They are not "show" quality & won't place in "best of breed shows." They r from a hen from Murray McMurray. The breeder I bought them from in Oct, said they might do very well at fairs. It's for our kids, yanno how that goes.

We have a red footed tortoise & baby ball. Herping is quickly rising to the top as our new fave hobby. Didn't realize just how fun this is!! Not trying to do breeding or anything, just teach the kids how to be responsible pet owners & enjoy a variety of diff creatures. The pix on this site blow my mind! I wish I could visit w/ people's snakes. They are all so gorgeous!

j3nnay Jan 10, 2007 03:01 PM

I didn't know they made sex link banties. I'm not sure there's a category for them - sex link came about cause farmers wanted to know which chicks were girls and boys as soon as possible so they could cull the boys out of their laying flock.

Good luck! Cochins are awesome. We used to have a few and they were great brooders. We'd put regular size eggs under them instead of their own so they'd raise up more laying hens.

I was five when I got my first snake, and I've still got her! She's about to turn 15. Taught me all my most important lessons.
1) Always wash your hands or else you smell like dinner, and that means you'll get bit.
2) Be nice when you wake someone up or else they'll be grumpy and bite you.
3) If it covers you up, it doesn't matter what it looks like.
4) If you're not hungry, don't eat. Even if it's a "chocolate" colored rat.
5) As long as it suits your needs, it doesn't matter how fancy or plain your house is.
6) Never, EVER microwave frozen meat items.
And the most important lesson of all:
7) Most people are dumb.

Oh, posting pics: Do you have a photobucket account yet? If not, sign up, it's free, and just upload pics there. Then, under the uploaded picture, there's three links: URL, TAG, and IMG. Copy/paste the IMG one into your post. TaDa!

I put a couple in the ball gallery & then my pc decided no more for today. Franklin has yet to pee on my bed. There are 2 of "him?" in there.

I just started breeding mice for him this week. The 2 girls are fancy pet mice, 1 is brown w/ white stomach & 1 has shaggy long fur b&w. The girls will remain pets & all the rest will be dinner.

I'm not sure if it would go over too well to upload pix of the chicKns in the ball gallery. Maybe I'll try to email them.

j3nnay Jan 10, 2007 04:05 PM

You misunderstood the gallery - www.photobucket.com is the site I'm talking about. It's a personal online gallery.

My mice were a disaster. The first mistake I made was to try keeping them in a hamster cage. Both (a boy and a girl) escaped by the next morning. Two days later, the boy was back IN the cage, running on the wheel.
I caught the boy a few days after he escaped again and put him in a cage that normally holds my extra feeder mice. He got out.
Caught the girl, and put her in a cage I purchased at the store that was expressly FOR mice. She's still there.
Caught the boy AGAIN... put him in the mouse cage... He escaped.
I watched my cat catch him...lick him...and then let him go.
I've decided he's Jesusmouse.

Good luck breeding your mice. Don't forget to clean the cage. Once mice start makin babies it starts smellin REALLY bad.

I have snapfish & kodak & too lazy to join another. lol The gallery here is fine.

Are you in New England area?

Do you think that using fabreze on a dog bed on the floor in the same room as 10 gal snake tank would be harmful? I'm getting really paranoid reading all the stuff that can go wrong. At least I know I'll get straight answers here.

j3nnay Jan 11, 2007 01:09 PM

Your ball is purdy!

I'm in Southern California.

The febreeze should be fine, I've used it in my bedroom with my animals around without a problem. Just use common sense - don't spray it right next to the cage, make sure the room's ventilated, don't use it allll the time, etc.
Just keep in mind that balls are pretty tough. If my snake could live the first 10 years of her life in the far-from-perfect care she had before I actually started learning about balls...People with the know-how should have no problem.
You're going through the steps to do everything right - research and talking to other snake owners and making sure you have the know-how. I sincerely doubt you'll have too many big issues.
