panther female gravid

chamgranny Jan 08, 2007 08:28 PM

I finally have been able to get my female ambanja and male ambilobe to mate. From what I have been told and read she will be dark and neon orange looking when around a male. That is what she is doing. I had them together for 4 days. How many days do I need to put her in the egg laying chamber. I have read 30. I have asked this question before but it turned out she was not gravid. Someone told me it could take up to 45 days. I only have experiance in veileds not panthers.

It can take between 30 and 45 days according to what I have read...but from my own experience, its always been close to 30. I keep a small container about 2/3rds full of washed playsand in the cage of any egglaying female chameleon I own once she is sexually mature...that way she can start to dig in it and thus has a way to show you that she is getting ready to lay. (The container is big enough that she fits into it with several inches to spare all around her when its empty.)

You said..."I only have experiance in veileds not panthers"...the main differences I have found with egglaying between the two is that panthers will lay their eggs with less trial digging and in smaller containers than veileds will. There are definite differences in incubation of the two species though.

Good luck with them.

Keep a suitable nesting container in with her all the time and you wont have to worry about day counting. It can vary from 25-45. Mine are usually right around day 30.
Note - mine go black and orange when NOT in the mood (and gape and generally look hostile), and pink when in the mood. Each one acts a little different when ready to lay. some stop eating a day or two before. One eats twice as much (if allowed). One digs trial holes here and there. the other gets down to business without fuss.

My female ambilobe layed eggs yesterday. She did a trial tunnell before she deposited them. I did not even think she was gravid. My female ambanja looks gravid but has not even started digging. They were both with the male a week apart. I appreciate your picture that is the color of my female ambanja

Did your ambanja lay her eggs yet?
