Juno or Generic?

antr1 Jan 08, 2007 08:38 PM

I picked up a very nice pair of what was labeled “Juno Rd” Alterna. They are about 22 inches, so maybe two year olds? The guy had no info on where or when they were collected. Should the offspring be offered as “ Juno Rd” or simply as generics. With the “Blairs” phase I don’t see much difference in price so I don’t think it matters too much. In my opinion nice looking snakes look nice regardless of locality . Any input?

they look like a sibling pair of captive born animals. as for the locality, do you have any reason to doubt the origin? did you ask any more questions? because if he didn't catch them or breed them, then he got them from someone else, who?

They were NOT collected.. This pair was captive bred in 2005.. email me for details..

Kinda a rule of thumb is that if you can't trace them then they are generic to be safe.Even if they look like a textbook example of a certain locale its better to be safe than sorry.

Now days (unless its a rare locale) you can get just as high a price if not higher for good generics.

Thanks Todd,
Yes,super orange female that Aaron and I found three years ago on the river road just south of panther caynon.
She wasn't ready to breed till this year but still decided not to.I hope she goes next year and with the male pictured because we caught him two minutes later not 1/2 mile away.

Super snake! Hope I find a silver or orange this year! Looks like Brewster county is where I am gonna do 85% of my hunting, with passes by Langtry in and out. Where y'all huntin' this year?

Lance I have been out the last few years on the river and it is just too dry. Very few animals out until later in summer.

Granted, the country is the best. I love the country and if that is really your primary goal is to just see some AWESOME alterna country than yeah, Brewster is the place to be...

Good Luck and Lots of Rain please...

Are trans pecos rat snakes nippy or are they calm when you catch them? Do they have a good disposition?

In fact it is a very rare few that will put up any real defense.

If you plan to keep a wild caught one remember that the smaller ones (Small or Sub-adult to Juvinile) tend to do much better. I have seen too many times that the larger ones refuse to feed in captivity unless you have access to Kangaroo Rats and Brown Bats. A good rule of thumb for me is if they are bigger around than than your thumb, they most likely will not do well.
