I've been wondering- has anyone seen what happens with a black rat that has rusty & whitesided traits? Do they combine? Does the stripe down the back look like a rusty, or does it stay black? Anyone have any pics of such a combination?

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer for you. But I do have a question. Are there any white sided black rats that have a completely black stripe down their back? That is what I have been holding out for....

I've seen several that are all black, no brown or grey or anything. However, none of these were truly a stripe. My little hatchling comes from a line that is being bred towards a "salt and pepper" phase. I've seen one adult of the line that is white with a black stripe that's all "peppering" down its back. It's not a solid band, but instead, is all broken up; however, as I said, it's all black. No other colors mixed in. I'm going to a reptile show this weekend, and if the breeder is there, I can get pics for you.
