ReptiSun 10.0 and or vit d3 for star???

scope1145 Jan 08, 2007 10:39 PM

Hello Everyone,
Im getting my first star tortoise next week. Its going to be indoors almost all year round. Ive been researching the care of stars for months now and im still wondering about this. Do I need to give vitamin d3 while using a reptisun uv bulb? I also have a 100w powersun uv bulb. Can anyone tell me whats the best for me to do about the lighting and supplements?? I will go and get whatever else I need asap if I dont already have it. I want to make sure im providing the absolute best care for him. I think have everything else down to a science. Thanks!

Hi,
Even if you have the UVB bulb it is still a good idea to supplement once in a while. Say every few feedings or so. The Powersun 100 watt bulb does the job of an incandescent and a UVB producing bulb, so it's all you need. The extra UVB light will not hurt anything though. Sounds all good to me.
