Odd Behavior

oceanfairy21 Jan 08, 2007 11:47 PM

Recently my beardie has been keeping his mouth open just a tiny tiny bit enough for the tip of his tongue to be out. I have adequate heat, the UV lamp, he has access to water, and a nice little hide out. He isn't very active as of late, but it just depends on the day. One day he's chasing his reflection the other he just sits there. I am not sure how old he is exactly but I know that I have had him for 6 months and he wasn't very big when I got him.
I am worried that somethings wrong.

If a BD is too hot it will gape its mouth to cool off much like a dog pants. Maybe this is the case with your BD? You may have the correct high temps but check your cool end?

actually i have seen him gape. But this isn't like that. this is like he's sticking his tongue out at you just a tiny bit so you can see the tip. and after he drinks when I spray him more of his tongue sticks out....and he drinks a lot! I have had days when I put him in a bath and he barely breathes he's drinking so much. I am actually starting to worry.

do you give him water every day ? - maybe hes just a thirsty dragon ? hmmm

not sure about the tounge thing - maybe hes just doing it on purpose .?

I hope so. You know, I have him a bath this afternoon and fed him again and now he's not doing it so bad. Huh. what a weird little lizard!
