Brumation Question

phiber_optikx Jan 09, 2007 12:13 AM

Just gave the sleepers some water today and took them out for a second to clean (spilt water) They are bigger and heavier than ever! Is it common for them to continue to grow so drastically while in brumation? BTW just ordered Don's book. Can't wait!

I've only every brumated my rattlesnake and she always looses some weight when she's down for the winter so it would make sense to me that they wouldnt really grow. But if they look healthy I wouldnt worry about it.
What temps do you brumate at? I keep my rattlesnake at 50
What book are you talking about?

The temperatures are still fluctuating pretty randomly. Some days it will spike up to 67 and some days it will drop to 50. I would say on average it is around 60-63 in there though. The book of which I speak is the one that was recently published by Don Soderberg.

I don't know about gaining weight or growing but I definitely find it comforting when I check on them and they haven't lost any weight.
I guess they could hit a growth spurt even in brumation. Would seem kind of odd with their matabolism slowed by the cool temps.
