ovulation question?

stevebp Jan 09, 2007 12:28 AM

1)How can I tell if my female is gravid since I think I missed ovulation? & 2)My female has been bred to my male and I witnessed copulation 9 times, She shed once early in the season and now is very large and is going to shed again. The question is how many times will they shed before they ovulate and/or lay? Thanks!!

This second shed is probably your post-ovulation shed, and you'll have slightly less than a month til eggs. If her lower half looks big, she's laying in a perfect coil on the warm side of the enclosure, starting to get rather grumpy when you open the cage...you've got a gravid snake. You'll know she's about to lay when it looks like her backbone is stickin out when she's laying in her coil. When I saw that (and didn't think my girl was gravid) I just about flipped because I was wondering how on EARTH my female had gotten so skinny lookin so quick.

Good luck, and get the incubator ready
