Sad...breeding season coming to an end

Linda G Jan 09, 2007 08:29 AM

Digit is coming out of season. He is turning dark getting
ready to start shedding again and has returned to being much
more aloof than he has been for the last several months.

He is so sweet when in breeding season that I almost miss
it. Many people have a really hard time with their males
at this time but I find this is when Digit is the most loving.
This may change but i will enjoy it for now

Thanks, I remember when Digit was that small. It doesn't
last long though, boy they grow quick.

Here is a picture of him at adoption. He was about 12"
long and weighed almost nothing. He is 3 now and is 44"
STL and about 3 lbs. You can see the cast the vet put on
his leg as he had the beginnings of MBD.

i got mine at a snake show like i said he was skinny as well .
and i soppose had MBD .. at some point
his 2 toes are bent sideways and has a very bumpy tail( at the end ) .. but i still love him .. hes like my first best iguana ever ...
hes 2 feet now . i got him in december 2th 06.. and he was a foot and like 10 inches so hes growing wonderfuly .. and hes going to the vet friday for a check up/

At 2' yours is really taking on the characteristics of a
female. The jowls seem a little small for a male but that
could change if the ig hadn't received proper care in the
past.

How old is yours? Here is another picture of Digit at
one year of age. He is really starting to take on the
the male image I think.

a girl .. mhmm possibly .. i really dont know any info from Jack's past sence i like bought him and then just brought him home .. mostly the lady that i bought him from just told me the basics of keeping him and stuff .. so when i go to the vet tomorrow maybe they can give me a better idea ? if not a female is nice too

digit is so cute .. lol hes so silly and thats a nice picture of him

and another one ... of jack ( possible female )

Yeah, females are great too if yours turns out to be one.
Can you post a picture of the femoral pores?
Here's Digits

Is Digit a male? That looks exactly like mine and I thought mine was a female. How old is Digit in that photo? How old are they usually easily sexable? I swear mine has the bulge at the base of the tail, but the femoral pores are kindda small like yours, so I thought maybe it's a she, but after taking a look at your photo, I might have a juvenile male.

Here is a picture of my IG's femoral pores. Do you think he is a male or a female? Thanks!

I don't remember exactly how old he was when I posted this
picture but I believe he was around 1.5-2 years old. Digit
is definately all male. From the looks of your picture I
would say you have a female as the pores are not at pronounced
as Digits. Depending on your igs age it could be a male
but just not developed as yet. The head of the iguana also
can clue you in as the males spikes and jowls are normally
larger than a female.

It really doesn't matter whether male or female. I have
one of each and they are each great in their own way!
Attached is a picture of my special needs iguana which is
a female. The shelter guessed her to be about 2 years old
when I adopted her. Look at her jowls which are much smaller
than Digits (see above picture of him)
Hope this helps

this picture but it is still pretty young so things could
change.

I took a new photo of Digit today. I lost some of it when
I resized it for the photo gallery.

Compare his head with that of yours.

Dexter is still in season, but I've got to say in the six and a half years I've had him, this has been the most pleasant experience so far! He is normally a complete monster in season (and fairly aloof out of season), and he can be dangerous. Yet for some reason, this time around, he has turned into the sweetest thing, I have never seen him like this before... Florescent orange iguana following me all over the house. The only time he seems content is in my lap. He refuses to stay in his enclosure... From the time I wake up in the morning I can hear him scratching to get out... I wish he was eating a bit more, but I guess in due time...

I know I have said this before but Dexter is quite the
handsome man. He has every right to have an attitude

I am so happy that Digit has not been nasty. I hope it
lasts.

Thanks, I'll pass the complement along to him! The million dollar question is why after 6 and a half years of having an attitude, has he finally become so sweet? I hope he stays this way...
