Need info about Kinking

melindas Jan 09, 2007 11:14 AM

I have a male ball that is about a year and a half old. I purchased him when he was about 6 weeks old. After we brought him home set him up we saw a lump on his back. We noticed that from the lump down the end would just drag along , we took him to the vet and they took a xray and discovered that his back was broke and it had healed with the bone pointing up a bit. After a while he actually got some strenth in that section and was doing good. But i notice that as he has gotten bigger from the break down he is all lumpy. I took him back to the vet and he said that because of the break he is kinking. recently I notice he is losing muscle in tha t whole section. I have tried to find info on kinking and if thier is any chance of him getting any better or will he get worse as he gets bigger. I do not feed him large meals and his growth is slow and he went off feed for about three weeks now.Any info on kinking would be appreciated. This is my 5 year olds snake and she loves this guy. the vet had no answers as far as what would happen said he didnt know to much about it. Thanks in advance.

I have a snake that I rescued that is kinked about the last 3rd of his body.. He eats and eveything vet thinks he's fine fat in perfect health.so until it seeme's like he in pain or ill I think he should be fine. My snake move's around fine but alway's lay's with that part of his body straight so he has a hide that suit's that need. I'd be extra careful when you handle him also.

We are very careful with him. Where your snake is kinked is the muscle as strong. He is feeling really soft from the kink down everything else is very strong. Is that normal? I have him set up simple so he cant get hung up and is hide is longerso he can get wverything in .

He's not soft like mushy but its also an old problem for him so I can't say but I am a nurse and know that muscles will get soft as they weaken..My snake can't support his body like my other's can can't wrap his tail around my wrist or even bend that part at all..I'd just keep an eye on it if hes eating and healty and not botherd buy it I'd leave him be but if he's not doing well I'd make a choice..My guy is an oldold snake so as long as he has a good life I leave him be..

I think Im gonna take him back to the vet. He has been off feed for three weeks now. I wasnt worried about it is that time off year, But the he isnt losing weight but he has no strenth at all back thier. There used to be some at least..
