What 2 do if eggs come before incubator?

RyanT Jan 09, 2007 06:21 PM

I might be about to hit a dilemma and need some advice. I have 3 gravid females at the moment and just ordered a new incubator. It won't be here for 2 weeks, and one female looks like she's not gonna make it that long. 2 years ago, I only had one clutch to incubate, and I did it with a Hova-Bator, but I recently moved and the Hova is in storage 200 miles away. So, I'm stuck with no way to incubate. I really don't want to let her incubate them until the new incubator comes. She's a big girl and I'm expecting a big clutch from her. I guess I could find a feed store and buy another Hova-Bator as a substitute for a few days. I know it's worth it but that's a waste of money. I'm rather thrifty (cheap bastard). Any other ideas? Thanks a lot. Ryan.

Congrats Ryan - still kicking myself for not buying her when I had the chance - is she giving you cinnys this year?

Anyway - I'd let her/them sit on them until you have your incubator up and running. The only down side really is that they will most likely be stuck together in a honeycomb and you might have to find a deep tub to put them in.

Otherwise get a cooler and some heat tape and make your own.

Hey Tosha. How are you doing? That pic is actually from 2 years ago, the last time she was gravid. But yeah, she actually is gravid again with cinnies. I'm hoping to prove out her black back as genetic with one of her male offspring. I figure cinny BBs are better than just normals. As far as building my own incubator, I don't even wanna chance that. I don't trust myself when it comes to DIY. I suck at building, so I don't even bother wasting my time. Got any projects of your own going this season? Ryan.

This is the pic I meant to post.

buy another... for 50 bux it's worth it and you never know when one will fail... It's always a good idea to have an extra on hand.. i have 3 incubators in the house.
