if you mean 2 1/2 gallon tank .. a small hermit crab .. beta or a goldfish.. don't recommend anything else..

Actually, Goldfish wouldn't work in a 2.5 gallon tank. They put off way to much ammonia to be kept healthy.

I actually used 2.5 gallon tanks to raise single hatchlings (AFT's, leos and cresties), last year. Worked great till I got my shoebox rack for the leos and AFT's.

didn't know that about goldfish and now that i think about it a hermit crab probably needs a bigger cage too.. i used to keep hermit crabs as a kid and they were in a 10 gallon tank (but they were kind of big)
