Hi Lisa
No, they don't need to eat crickets. One advantage of keeping blue tongues is the wide variety of food you CAN give them. I've never fed mine a cricket and she is fine. She eats live slugs, snails, mealworms, chopped cooked chicken and a small amount of good quality cat food for the meat component of her diet (though some say pet food should be used sparingly, with dog food being preferable if u DO use it) then a variety of veges and fruit as well (more veges than meat...mix it up so your bluey will eat it.) Post again if you want more info (James, if u r readings this, maybe you could paste your BTS feeding info for Lisa...)

As A matter of fact, Crickets are a disadvantage with Blue-Tongues.

1. Crickets can climb readily and high. BTS can't.
2. By being out of striking range, Crickets have more time to
find a way to escape from the enclosure.
3. By not being eaten right away from either being out of range
or the BTS not interested in eating immediately-gives the
crickets a chance to turn the tables and munch on the Blue-
Tongue.

As far as insects, Supermealworms make a good substitute.

Best regards,
Jean
