i bought a het pied male from nerd about three weeks ago. also the smallest bp i have ever bought. he is currently the best eater i have, an absoulute PIG. he too has the "markers". he should be big enough to breed my female het pied later this year. she is an 05.
congrats on your snakes.
joe
what is the rush to breed an 05' female this year?
-----
Nick
Actually,if she was from an early spring hatch then she could be old enough.(I got a pastel girl like that, and she never skipped meals either.)...but what do i know.
Good luck with your new animals Kevin!

I do understand that every circumstance is unique. Even if it were an early 05' that most likely would not even put her at 2 years old.I guess it could happen if she was power fed for 2 years straight (weight vs. maturity) I'll take maturity any day. I just do not see the reason why people get sooooo greedy and try to push the buck to far.

Nick
Oh definitely, there are alot of people that will probably get a weak clutch this year.Hopefully for them it won't be a permanent thing with the female too.
-----
Charles
Doesn't mean she was power fed...Balls can eat large meals. I have an 05 that's over 1400 grams...she eats one rat per week.

Exactly...If they always eat then they are bound to progress better than average.(Average being, balls that skip every other/whatever meal.)

out of the question. any pieds i produce, if any will be kept. not greed, no real hurry, she will be ready. dont worry about my snakes, they are fine.
thanx for your concern though.
joe
Greed?
What, he is greedy to make a mutation that all of us LOVE?
I think you are confusing the excitement to produce a unique mutation with the belief that someone is about the money. I bet for a FACT that the majority of the people here are about the MUTATION, they want the satisfaction of hatching out their own little life from an egg.
I have TONS of unique animals and when I am trying to make cool snakes I am not running around thinking about the $$$, I am torturing myself with what it may look like. I LOVE my snakes more than the meager $$$$, otherwise I would not be so BROKE!
Satan looks for the souls of the greedy.

I was not assuming that "HE" kevin was being greedy for $$$$. I simply stated that I do not feel it is right to breed a female Ball Python at this young of age. I understand the importance of producing a Morph that you love and the excitement that is involved. I do infact believe that most breeders are in the biz for the love of the animals. To wrap this thread up...I was not trying to stir the coop here just stating my opinion. Healthy conflict is always beneficial to all.
Thanks

Well said Kev...if we make a little money to buy rats, great.
Otherwise we'll be happily broke. Whew, I really gotta start that rodent colony lol. No worries Nick...it's just that most of us really do it for the love of the animals. There ya go...if Satan aint rich yet it aint gonna happen.
