Green Tree Python Bites

ChondroGTP Jan 10, 2007 03:17 PM

is there a reason why GTPs and ETBs and all aboreal species are more aggressive than say ball pythons and boas? I got bit by a GTP yesterday, and it hurt. more than any other snake ive been bitten by. why the aggression?

Frankly, I've been bitten more often by my cornsnakes than my chondros. Only one in my collection is aggressive and she has been since day one. All the others are very tame. My sorong is probably the tamest snake in my collection. I don't find them aggressive for the most part at all. I even had a ball python go for my face one day when I opened the tub. Never had that except at feeding time with my chondros. And they're going for the mouse or rat, not me. Maybe you just got lucky?

The Green Trees I've had in the past were all as tame as could be. Even as hatchlings they didn't mind moving them around a bit. They got even better once they hit a year or two.

I know some locals can be aggressive and as with all species there are always those "devils spawns" here and there.

As far as the bite goes...of course it hurt more! Haven't you seen their teeth? The Green Trees and other arboreal snakes have very long teeth. Some say it's to penetrate feathers but more than likely it's to hold prey upside down hanging from a branch. They don't want to drop something and lose a meal.

GTP bites aren't that bad. Now a Gator bite *hurts*.
