Questions on Retics that are 100% het albino...

peterfromme May 20, 2003 10:42 PM

Hi,

I am interested in producing dwarf albino retics.

I was thinking of purchasing a 100% het albino male, and a 100% Dwarf het albino female.

Or, I was going to purchase a pair of 100% Dwarf het albino retics.

How would they be different?

Would the pair of 100% Dwarf het albino retics consistently produce smaller albino retics?

From my understanding, the 100% Dwarf het albino retics currently available were produced from a normal albino to a Jampea. It seems that the size potential factor would still be apparent no matter, which was bred. I’m not sure

Please help me understand this if you can...

Thanks,

Peter F.

If you breed a 100% het albino to a Dwarf het albino your albinos would be larger than a dwar het to dwarf het.

if you breed a het to a dwarf het the offspring will only be 25% dwarf, thats not going to turn out to be a significant size reduction.

If you breed a dwarf het to a dwarf het the offspring will be 50% as each of the parents is. This should produce atleast a noticable size reduction.

Remember, as far as dwarfs and dwarf crosses go, we are still on the ground floor taking the first steps and gathering information as we go. We are all learning together.

Hi,
I think that if you breed a normal to a dwarf het, you have so little Jampea blood, you should not call the offspring dwarfs anymore.
Bob Clark, for instance, has been breeding Dwarf het Albino X Dwarf Het Albino to get the Dwarf Albinos because he didn't have a Dwarf Albino male that was old enough to breed. He could have doubled his production of Albinos by breeding a Normal Albino male to the Dwarf het, but did not do this because it would make something too close to normal. We are trying to breed the size down. If you breed a dwarf to a normal, you are going the wrong way, back up. Hope this helps.
