male or female by appearance of head

clownloach Aug 09, 2003 06:28 PM

just out of curiousity, i have notice that the back of the females head, where the head and the neck meet, they have a straight line, where the males have a V type of pattern on them. do you think that is possible where you can tell the sex of a ball python? just an observation.

...in a word: No....No evidence to date showing sexual dimorphism with regards to color or pattern.

yeah snakes usually aren't sexually dimorphic. I have some females with the v neck and I have a male that has a pattern that looks like a lttle hood with two spots just like a cobra..
