advice on types of monitors

lasergrl94 Jan 10, 2007 11:18 PM

I am looking into getting another monitor. In the past I have had an argus, and a red tegu (I know not a monitor). I loved the tegu, but wasnt as active as Id like. The argus was just too big and a little more agressive then I expected (lunger).

I am looking for a small species, active and one that is a ravenous eater. I loved that about the tegu and the argus. I Like ackies, but they may be a little too small. Timors it seems are shy? Timors seem about the right size though.

My encosure is about 3 1/2 long, two feet wide, and two feet deep.

any thoughts or suggestions? If no species sounds right thats ok too.

In that sized cage I would not place anything larger than an ackie....that is even pushing it for ackies. Good Luck.

You need an enclosure double the length of your current one to house full grown ackies.

I use a cage that size(a little longer) to house my hissing cockroaches. I would also(as the other two stated) reconsider either a monitor or a tegu unless you are planning on building something significantly larger.

How many hissers do you have? I've got my colony in a 106qt tote. I started with 20, but I got a sack full the other night.

Whenever I would buy them for my reptiles, I would throw a few extra into the tank so I have about 25 now. Hoping to see some little ones in the near future. Those things are awesome when they get huge. And they all run and hide when I open the cage or turn on the light. Its amusing.
