Sliding Glass Door Ideas?

boa4ever Jan 11, 2007 02:57 AM

I want to build a Box(cage) for my baby boas when they get bigger and need to figure out how I will make the opening. I thought about just makeing a typical hinged lid with a screen and glass flued to the front. But the thought of stacking cages makes me want to make a sliding glass door on the front.

In fact the ideal setup would be to somehoe make the upper lip of the glass sliding tack a little higher, this way I would be able to remove the glass doors in and out if I were to move it.

========= QUESTION =============

Can anyone direct me to a webpage that caryies the tracks I am looking for? I dont have many fancy tools(like a dado blade) so I cant cut grooves into the wood.

PS. Sorry kingsnake.com I posted this message the first time in the General snake section before I found out about this section of the forum. Sorry for double posting.

This is standard. Every type of glass track I have seen has a taller upper track to allow the panels to be lifted out.

Rockler carries a plastic track, a wooden (maple) track and an aluminum track with nylon glides.

It will be cheaper to buy it locally, but finding it can be tough. If you need 12' or more, then I can dig up a link for you from Outwater.

Actually all the glass bypass tracks have an upper an lower set in which the upper set is slightly taller to allow for the glass to be removed.

You can find it at Outwater plastics and a few other places but since you are no probally going to by glass locally you might ask the glass company what they sell often it is cheaper due to shipping costs.
