Show me your set-ups!

agentcooper0103 Jan 11, 2007 07:56 AM

I'm about to get back into the Green Tree world after a 10 year break. I sold my trio a long time ago to pay for my honeymoon! Ouch I know!

But 10 years in the wife and I are ready to get back into my all-time favorite snakes! I'll be starting with just a couple of captive hatchlings or yearlings and I wanted to see what kind of housing/enclosures people are using and what they like or don't like about their set-ups.

I had my babies in rubbermaids with pvc rods, large water dish and usually kept them in a large closet to control the heat/humidity better. Once they got big enough I moved them to some vertical aquarium type cages with more branches etc....this time around I'm not sure what I want to do so I wanted to see what others have!

Let's see 'em!!!!!

Thanks!

Here's our setup for our 6 month old Jaya named HazMat. He/She seems to like it pretty good. The waterfall adds a lot of humidity and every hour from 8 am until 6 pm the cage gets sprayed for 15 seconds. I use a 150 watt bulb during the day and a 100 watt red bulb at night.

Barrs cages, Helix panels and controls, Rainmaker Mist System. The other wall is exactly the same. Emeralds down low (cooler) Chondros up top and hold back Emeralds in the smaller cage. I keep mine plain, only some fake foliage in one cage for some shy feeder Emeralds. I also rigged up drains for each cage so water doesn't pool up after misting.

i was just wondering where you got those enclosers, and roughly how much they cost.

They are Barrs cages. You can buy them online here:

Very nice cages at a great price. He will modify them if needed (i.e., make them with solid tops instead of screen tops).

I saw those online. How long have you used them and do you think they work as well as the pro panels? They are so cheap in price.....

I have been using them for over 2 years now with zero problems...

I just send off a 16 page article about my cages Wednesday to Reptiles Magazine, so you will get the oppertunity to read about what I think about them in the future...

I may just go with those in my new enclosures when my husband builds them for me. I'd probably have to get the largest one as the enclosures are going to be 36 X 24 X 24. They cost a lot less for them though and I also found some floor mats that can go into the enclosure on Big Apple site as well for the colubrids. Thanks for the idea!

Here is my setup for my adult breeders and some subadult holdbacks. The condo untit was custom-built by Habitat Systems Ltd. It was pricey, but I love it.

Thanks,

Here is a close up of one of the untits in our rack. This one contains a pair of Kafiau Island (Canary) Condros. I try to keep my breeding enclosures simple, but I do have a naturalistic display in my house with one of our holdback juvniles.

Thanks,
