Meal Worms

justin_19 Aug 09, 2003 06:53 PM

I baught some meal worms for my green anole last week and have been feeding him a couple each day. Before this I was feeding only crickets, i baught the worms to try something new and because the crickets were getting away from him a lot of the time and I was waisting a lot. The meal worms have worked a lot better since they are just in a dish and he grabs them when he feels like it. My question is if i can give him just meal worms from now on, or if i should still get him crickets, and if anyone has suggestions on keeping the crickets from eluding my anole. Thanks.

don't feed your anole to much mealworms because they can get inpacted very easily. You really need to feed him/her crickets. Your anole could die from eatting to many meal worms so be VERY careful about what your feeding it. you should feed your anole mealworms as a treat, not as a daily food intake. i hope this helped!!

There are no impaction problems from feeding mealworms. Mealworms are a major staple in many herps diets. The only problem with mealworms is that if they eat too many they may vomit them back up beacuse they can't digest them all at once.

Also, i'm not sure about other anoles, but mine likes to eat like 7 or 8, and the other 2 i feed him normally hide. then, later, when he gets hungary, he hunts them down. also try moths, there is nothing better that seeing how fast your anole really is. its even better when they catch the moth while it is flying y them, but other that that, like the person who posted befre me said, mealworms should only be used as a snack.
