High Heat Silicone with Heat Tape

truch Jan 11, 2007 10:39 PM

I'm using high heat silicone to attach 4" heat tape to 4" aluminum flashing for my BP rack:

Has anyone had any experience or problems using high heat/ regular silicone as an adhesive in a BP rack? Mainly if anyone knows if silicone is harmful/ dangerous to BPS even if the silicone has fully cured? Any info would be great.

I used double sided tape on my incubator and it worked great ........No vapor!

We use gorilla glue for all of our heat tape. But to answer your question it depends on the type or brand you used. When i use to make tanks i only used GE window and door b.c anything for bathrooms had a mildew resistant in it. I went back to home depot recently and noticed that GE is now adding mildew resistant in all of their products (which is very harmful even after curing) As long as it does not have any type or mold or mildew protector you should be fine.
Hope that helps...

What is gorilla glue? Do you spread it all over the tape, or just in spots? Can you get it off again if you need to? I think I might have seen it before at Home Depot. I have always used metal duct tape for attaching heat tape.
Thanks Mike

great product. very strong. hard to remove once cured( hammer and chisel) just a dab'l do ya. also, gorilla glue has a tendency to expand while curing. a single drop can grow to the size of a dime.

I'm using 500 RTV Rutland Black High Heat. Its supposed to be mainly for fireplaces, stoves, etc. so im hoping it doesn't have any mildew resistant junk in it.

I've already attached about 6 of my panels so I'll probably just finish the last 4 and, depending how it works, go with aluminum foil tape next time. Thanks for all the suggestions and experience!!! Truch from Oakland.

Aluminum tape works great as well and can be removed if the need ever arises!
