sister wants a reptile but can't find the one right for her

grouchyrocker87 Aug 09, 2003 07:22 PM

my sister wants to get a lizard. she wants a lizard that she doesnt have to feed crickets to. her specifications are no crickets, not too big, not too hard to care for, docile, fairly inexpensive. she has said that she doesnt want a leopard gecko or uro and those were the only ones i could think of that fit her needs! can anyone help?

Reptiles need to be cared for in a more special way then just feeding it. espically with anoles, they need proper heat and precepitation. if you want a good pet for your sis, get her a cat. they dont eat crickets, they are fairly inexpensive from the pound, and she can hold and play with it! Plus... cat food doesnt move!!!

OH!, AND ONE MORE THING, AS THE LIZARD CAN BE VERY INEXPENSIVE, IF YOU DONT WANT IT TO BE MISERABLE AND STRESSED, SHE WILL HAVE TO SPEND BETWEEN 150-200 FOR A DESCENT HABITIT FOR HIM/HER... JUST ANOTHER SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT... GOOD LUCK

Ask her if she wants a crested gecko. It's a gecko not a lizard but they look like a lizard. They like room temperature best
72-78 so they don't need heat lamps unless your house is very cold. They are nocturnal so the light in the room should be enough. They don't need tons of room a 10-20 gallon tank with a screen lid is fine.
They can eat crested gecko diet (a powder you mix with water) that makes a mush about the consistency of baby food. They lick it up. All they need are branches to climb and for you to spray their enclosure with water once or twice a day. They don't like to be held constantly like a beardie but will tolerate handling several times a week. You can tame them rather easily. They are soft and feel kinda like a gummie bear. They are cute. They only get eight inches long. Look in the Rhacodactylus forum for pictures or ask someone to post one. Hope I helped.
