Cyrus getting steroid eye drops.

lele Jan 12, 2007 02:24 PM

Well, back to the vet last night. Cyrus eye trouble is in its 3rd month with still no other symptoms. The lubricating eye drops gave him very temporary relief. We decided to take another look and Dr. N. "shot" saline into it to try and loosen anything. He did feel that the conjunctiva seemed a bit inflamed and cloudy but said it could just be from his rubbing and there is no infection and said it was safe to give him steroids. He gave me Neo-Poly-Dex (Neomycin, Polymixin B Sulfates & Dexamethasone) to give several times a day for 5 days. Anyone have experience with this? Steroids always make me nervous but I have seen them do amazing things for some of my animals and even for me.

It's so weird b/c when it is open and "working" it is fine. We had originally planned on anesthetizing so he could really take a look around, but decided to try this first - fin with me! Neither of us want to got the anesthesia route unless really necessary. My fear has been that he will do damage from all the rubbing and stretching.

Funny, the tip of his nose and that one eye (the bad one) is shedding! Like Luna, he will sit under his dripper and just let the water flood his face! Maybe its me and how I get them drinking early on.

Anyway, just wanted to update as I have not been on forums much. Here he is peeking out from his plant during a shower

lele, what type of camera do you have (specifically)? Your pics look really good. just curious.

It's a Nikon Coolpix 7600. I like it for the most part. Has a lot of "scene" settings, but that one was just taken standard. It will suffice until I can afford a SLR.

Here is one of Luna with my old Nikon Coolpix 4300

I'm sorry to hear that you are having to give Cyrus more treatment.

I haven't had any experience with Neo-Poly-Dex (Neomycin, Polymixin B Sulfates & Dexamethasone). to give several times a day for 5 days. Anyone have experience

You said..."Steroids always make me nervous but I have seen them do amazing things for some of my animals and even for me"...I've seen them do a few good things too. Let's hope it does something good for Cyrus to!!

Cute pictures of Cyrus and Luna!

thanks, I hope so two, but it is day 3 and I am not seeing any change. It is so freaking dry here right now, I wake up feeling like a piece of sandpaper - fine sandpaper, but sandpaper just the same. I have one of those no-mist, fan-type humidifier right next to the bed and I don't think it does a thing. I am tempted to climb into Cy's cage with him!!

Btw, I did reply to your email. I know with new filters in place a lot of mail gets sidetracked so just wanted you to know.
