their advice is priceless when it comes to sealing cages and offgas time. Let me give a little back ground about what I did before I asked the question!! I built (2) 8' x 3' x 2' retic enclosures and "sealed" them with a hybrid stain poly mix I bought from home depot. Absolutely beautiful finish, but smells kinda bad. I ask the question here about it, Chris tells me the sad news that it could be awhile to offgas. That was about 20 months ago. These things were left outside for a full year in the West Texas wind, heat, cold, rain, sleet, snow, you name it it was in it - AND THEY STILL SMELL TO THIS DAY. I've sense moved them into our warehouse to just let the process take however long it will take. A very costly lesson!! We have since started using linolium or vinyl to seal our cages. Much better alternative. Just kind of an FYI about sealing cages. I went out and smelled them by sticking my head into the tanks and they still smell like that darn hybrid mix. Just got frustrated all over again and don't want to see anyone make the same mistakes I did!!

Ug! That had to be frustrating. But kudos to you for not thinking "hey, it'll probably be ok" and putting your snakes at risk just because you sunk a lot of money into the new cages. Some people would have just used them.... and wondered why their snakes didn't do so well.

That cage does look great though! Nice work even though it's unused right now....
