Annectens, riverside county is my guess.
I found one like that near Palmdale, CA.
Annectans with some deserticola influence?
Annectans, maybe Verbeania locality?

San Diego Gopher from somewhere in L.A. County. I've caught one like that around here (San Fernando Valley area).

" A subspecies most closely resembling P.c. catenifer and P.c. annectens", "...most closely resembles annectans in pattern, including pattern, color, and blotch counts, but is nearer catenifer in number of ventral and subcaudal scales." It differs from both in having fewer scale rows and being STUNTED IN SIZE." These discriptions are lifted from an August 26, 1946 "Tansactions of the San Diego Society of Natural History, Volume XI, No. 2 pp.41-48". The emphasis on the size is mine but should absolutely give this one away.
Any more guesses? I thought that the request for very specific locality would be a big hint as well. Note that the snake pictured is a 5 year old, 22inch long adult snake.

At that size it's gotta be a P.c. pumilis (AKA Santa Cruz or Channel Islands Gopher snake). The pics of the ones I've seen don't look that much like an annectens.

Looks like annnectan but I'am going to say coronalis or pumilus.

Way to go Jason! Dinner at Teresa's Mosaic Cafe when you visit. you posted as I was dropping in more hints but you got it ! I wish it was a Coronad island gopher( P.c.coranalis), as it would be the only one in captivity and maybe the only in excistence as there is good evidence that they may be extinct.
The guy who gets my babies each year said that he gets alot of folks stop at his table and look but not buy saying, "they look like san diegos, I do not want one". Can you imagine not buying something as absolutely cool as a bonafide island dwarf morph just because it looks superficially like the mainland form!
Well,
I sure would love to got my hands on a pair of those. It would be pretty amazing to have a pit with such a small adult size. I can't imagine how small those hatchlings would be. I bet they need pretty small pinks. If possible I would love to contact you through email about those guys. My email is pituophian@gmail.com if you could drop me a line.
