Thank you fo rasking.

I talked to the doc at the lab today. He said he finds no signs of IBD. I spoke to him the other day about the possibility of exposure to some kind of flea killing chemicals. He said today that everything he has found points to that likelyhood. However, due to the long weekend, it'll be next week before we get anymore test results back. The vet I took my corns to seems to agree.

Unfortunately, I can not find out exactly what kind of chemicals they may have been exposed to. the, ummmm, "nice, caring person" (see me refrain?)who I need that information from is not helping at all, and sees no reason why this is a big deal. It would be really, really helpful if I could get this information. I don't think I'm going to, though.

I happily report that all my other snakes seem to be doing fine. I am pretty happy with the information I have gotten so far. Nothing 100% conclusive, yet, and that may never happen. But it is looking like the rest of my snakes may be safe. That is my hugest worry right now.

Gee, what a great friend to be so helpful to you, not!

Can you take the contents of the vaccuum to your local vet to have it tested?

That's great news about your remaining snakes!

Stryder Jan 12, 2007 10:29 PM

Oh man! That's a great idea. Sadly, I had not even thought of that. I made it a point to empty the vacuum, clean it all out as best I could. There's a chance there is still some kind of residue, though. I will look into that.

Did this person use your cleaners, or did they bring in their own? Either way you would have a basic list of what chemicals may have been used.

No. I loaned my vacuum cleaner to somebody, not giving it a second thought. In retrospect, I realized they had been battling fleas in their house, and had used several flea killing products. And no. They "can't remember" what they used.

This is the only thing I can think of.

Where did they get the flea products from?
If it was Petco, I know we only carry about three different brands, and they're all in one isle. If your friends can remember - Did they spray the carpet? Did they put powder in the carpet? Did they use flea shampoo or a dip on their furry critters? Do they have cats or dogs or both? Did they use a flea collar or the frontline/advantage drops on the back of the neck? Did they bugbomb?
If they used a carpet spray or powder then that narrows your search down to just one shelf, and if it was one or the other that narrows it down even more.
Shouldn't be too hard for your friends to remember if they used a spray or powder on the carpet (short of amnesia), which is the most important part since that's what would get vacuumed up. If they remember which then you just gotta check a couple labels at the store

Yes. I did use the hose, and I'm sure there should be residue in there to test.

My biggest thing now is finding somebody willing to do the testing. No luck, yet, but (being a long weekend for most folks) I will, hopefuly have more luck tomorrow.

Thanks.
