Chicken as a meal?

armiyana Jan 13, 2007 02:24 AM

Here's my problem:
The store I regularly purchased my feeders from for the past 6 years is closing. I currently do not have access to a car and the next pet store is a bit of a drive.

Normally I'd just try and make due with frozen mice, but I'm not able to with my current housemates. No mice in the freezer rule.
Breeding is also out of the question as I have no time to maintain them in my schedule and a cat who gets into anything.

So that's why I've come down to the idea of chicken as a substitue for the time being. The idea partly spawned while flipping through an issue of reptiles and spotting a snake eating a piece of chicken.

There's usually a stockpile of chicken breast tucked away in the freezer, so it's easy to come by. (and as an added bonus it's cheaper...)But I do want opinions before I get all gung ho about things.

Any possible hazards to the switch? I honestly can't think of any offhand, but I appreciate any info. Hopefully I'll find a car and just be able to migrate back to a new pet store.

Absolutely not. It is not a natural meal for ball pythons. You would likely never even convince the animal to eat.

For a suggestion, do what I do, wrap that kind of stuff up in a grocery bag or butcher paper and convince them it is your hamburger for the week or something. It hasn't faiuled me yet Better yet, tuck it way in the back and take it out when they are not around.
