Small noserub dilemma.

kcaj Jan 13, 2007 06:46 AM

I have all my Dry's set up in identical conditions. Today while I was cleaning one snake's enclosure, I noticed that he had a pink nose. I haven't noticed him cruising his enclosure any more than any other snake. In fact for the most part the snakes have seemed to slow way down on their activity levels and just stay in their hides. The nose isn't raw or anything like that, just pink. So I figure that he is telling me something, what that is I don't know. He is only a yearling so I don't think sex is on his mind. His enclosure is 4x2x1.5 ft. with an under enclosure drawer hide plus two hides in the main area and water bowl. The temps range from 85* to 72*. I figure that his nose will be good as new the next time he shed's. I just would like to know why he rubbed it in the first place. Any suggestions as to why maybe helpful so fire away. Thanks Jack

my guess would be that it's too hot for him in his cage. Your temps sound ok though, but that's my guess.
I have a Texan who occasionally has a pink nose because he repeatedly strikes at the plexiglass door of his cage whenever I walk by...

in the ladies. Or maybe the tendency for them to go nuts in the winter is coincidental with breeding season.

Either way I agree with Paul that it might just be temps (again, maybe he has a desire to cool because it is winter?).

And I agree he'll be fine after the next shed. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I thought that temps might be the problem also, that is why I checked them. The drawer hide even gets as cool as the low to mid 60's at night. I figure that maybe he just got bored and went spastic one day while I was out of the room. I will put some new toys in with him to give him some new stimulation. some pieces of pvc pipe and other such things. Jack
