MA Press: Lynn teen gets snake scare

Jan 13, 2007 08:45 AM

WHDH (Boston, Massachusetts) 12 January 07 Lynn teen gets snake scare
Lynn, Mass.: You may have heard of snakes on a plane, but what about a python under a dishwasher?
Angel Marquez, Jr., 13, was making lemonade when all of a sudden...
"My sock got stuck," Angel said. "So, when I went to pull, I felt, like, a pinch."
What Angel Marquez, Jr. felt was a two-and-a-half-foot, albino python.
Angel Marquez, Sr. heard his son screaming and came running.
"I heard him screaming, and then I came down," Marquez, Sr. "He started explaining what happened. I couldn't believe it. I thought he was making up this story or something."
The family called police, who caught the snake and brought the creature to a local, animal hospital.
The bite barely left a mark on Angel's toe, but did leave the teen with an emotional scar.
"Now, I like them even less," said Angel.
A vet said the python probably slithered through the wall and under the dishwasher.
This breed of python can grow to be 10 feet.
"Someone obviously didn't realize what sort of enclosure [was] needed to keep him safe, or because he didn't realize the care that he needed [and] just let him go," said veterinarian Lisa Colgan.
Police do not know how the python ended up inside the house.
Angel will be OK.
The python is expected to be put up for adoption.

I should tell them that that's a snow cornsnake.

He is now safely adopted by a corn snake enthusiast - me!

I work near where this happened and called the animal hospital where I thought they might have taken him. He is now named Monty and doing fine.

Many people emailed the TV station about the snake not being a python. I don't think they really care.

Then this quote is all the more fitting:

"A vet said the python probably slithered through the wall and under the dishwasher.
This breed of python can grow to be 10 feet."

Cracks me up... it's similar to when I hear people describe the size of the 'fangs' on boids... LOL!
