Everglades rat snake...

Im wonting to add a new everglades Rat to the collection, i see a lot of different shades of the red colors being produced. Is there any body who works with the deep red color striclty? Ive seen some nice ones, and some that are real dull in color.Any info??

The really red ones are often called "Deckert's Ratsnakes".

Deckert's are not Everglades Rats.

I have mixed results with mine. I mean, some are better than others for sure....
I kept this guy because even as a tyke he had rubbed his nose raw. This snake keeps his cage in an absolte mess!
Probably not as red as you'd like....

Thats a nice lookin snake! I would prefer a brighter toned, but like all snakes it will change with age. Do you breed them?

I may breed him to my wc girl here....

but I have other males for her also.
Maybe a different male for the 2nd clutch or something...

Heck, you are almost oligated to breed those beauties! Those things are getting hard to find aren't they? It's been a long time since I've been out looking but I can hardly think of an area where I use to hunt that I would expect to still find them. All the primo spots in Coral Springs, Pompano, Dania and Ft. Lauderdale have been gone for a long time now. If you know a good spot now, keep it to yourself, or go get some good stock so more people will be able to have them someday. We really use to take them for granted but they are a great American snake.
