Breeding Question

GDeHavenIV Jan 13, 2007 06:26 PM

Can a pair of kingsnakes hang out peacefully together when they're young? Or should they be seperate until the breeding process begins?

It is always best to seperate kings when they are not breeding as they are known to eat other snakes... although some may disagree..

Some species (ie getula) are more of a problem than others.
But all of them eat reptiles when hungry.

The kingsnakes will eat other kingsnakes, especially the eastern species. They will even eat siblings. Before I got this little guy from the breeder, he ate his brother on the way to a reptile show.

How old do kingsnakes have to be to breed? I've searched a couple places but no age was given. Help?

Propper breeding size has been an issue with several different opinions on the forum in the past...

In my opinion it's not really age but more size... I have found that if fed correctly MOST female kings are breedable at 3 years of age..

Although, there are some breeders that do it in 2 years and i have as well with certain types kings..

For males it would be the same as females.. of course minus the risk of eggbinding if bred too young.
