A Sunday Surprise Clutch!!

prehistoricpets Jan 14, 2007 12:52 PM

We came in this morning to check on things before we opened the shop and we saw this female Tiger Het coiled on the heat in the corner of her cage. Lo and behold, she was sitting on a cloud of 33 perfect eggs. She was not expected to lay anything good, and we figured she would slug out on us, but she proved us wrong. There were no slugs at all in this clutch. She was bred to an Albino Super Tiger, so this should be a good clutch. Thanks for looking.

I couldn't figure out how to post multiple pics, but here are the actual eggs, wonderfully modeled by Tim.

Patrick,

I see a Supertiger in the background. can you post some pics of her/him when you get a chance. Like to see what the patterns are. i just got one myself. Shes a baby

Per your request, here is a pic of the Super Tiger from the background. She was a little grumpy and looking for food, so this is the best I could get without her getting too cranky. She is a Super Tiger 100% het for Clark Strain. She is an 04, about 12-13 ft long, and hopefully she'll breed for us later this year.

Wow, she is awesome!

I only hope we can breed her this year! I would love to see how she passes her color and pattern on to her babies!

why you anticipated she would drop a group of slugs this time. Had she produced before? Nice clutch by the way.

Thanks!

She just didn't look very good in the back end, not all fat towards the bottom third like most of our other females that have laid good clutches this season. This was her first year laying a good clutch. Last year she slugged out, and we just didn't have a lot of hope for this season, but that will teach us! We couldn't have hoped for something better from her.

Hi,
Just curious how warm you females tend to be at their basking site on top of the heat prior to laying. I like to use my infrared gun to check temps and the girls like to heat up the month or so before laying. I am just curious how warm you have been seeing them. again the temps in each facility may vary but i try to warm up the entire animal room a bit to about 84 and let the females bask into the high 80s 88-89 when sensed with the gun.

Thanks

Winslow

PS my Kayuadi is getting ready to lay sometime soon. I usually get eggs the first week in February.

prehistoricpets Jan 14, 2007 03:34 PM

The females have a hot spot of 89 degrees, and then the temp on the cool side can be anywhere from 70-78, depending on the size of the cage and the outside temp. It has been getting pretty cool for our location, so the room temp is in the high 60s, which puts the cool side around 70 degrees. Ideally, we would keep the cool side at about 77 or 78, but they still seem to do fine with the cooler temps as long as they have a good basking area in the 88-90 degree range.

Nice looking clutch, by the way. How many did she lay for you last year? It looks a BIG clutch for a little girl.

As to the previous pic, that was her first clutch 4 years ago. She laid 22 then, 40 the next year took last year off and should have a nice big clutch this year as she is pushing 14 ft and is 8 years old.

below is a pic of her sister laying eggs as well

Very nice, indeed. Good luck with her this year. To what was she bred?

Patrick,

She was bred in rotation with her two siblings that came from the clutch that hatched for Bushmaster in the pics below. These are the only pure locality specific Kayuadi CBB animals around producing babies again this year.

i was looking at the reciept and i think they were born in 2005, winslow sold them to someone i know in feb '06, and i purchased them in may '06... they are from the last clutch winslow produced... i have a trio and they are all in the 5-6ft range.

they are doing really good!
