Well it looks like my cage is ready..

I have got everything I need in my 10 gallon cage now ^_^ my automatic mister system sprays for 60 seconds every 6 hours. I have my DBS set for 78-81 during the day with a 74 low at night. One large waterbowl for soaking on cool side, then a hiding place on the hot side. Now for ordering the frozen mice, anyone here thaw frozen rats for food???

Every Saturday morning I take out froxen rats for the Saturday night feed. I let them sit out in a covered tupperware dish to thaw all day. Then, at feeding time, I fill the tupperware dish with hot hot tap water. This warms the prey item a bit and gives the snakes the illusion of being offered a live food item.

I get my frozen rats/mice from Rodentpro. They're very nice, and professional. Their prices are competitive. I've never purchased from the other big suppliers but I have not heard anything bad about others in the frozen rodent business.

do they accept the food right away on snake tongs or do you have to put them in a seperate cage with the rat for a while?

Based on my experience with my snakes that take frozen rodents(rainbow not included by the way, he only takes live) just wiggling them with tongs should do the trick.

It is probably a smart idea to feed the snake in a separate container. By doing so, the snake won't always associate movement in its cage with food, and therefore reduce your chances of getting bitten. Good luck to you and your BRB!

I don't usually move my animals to separate cage to feed them. The exception is during breeding season. I remove the males 24 hours before I try to feed them. To feed most of my animals, I just open the cage, present the thawed food on tongs and the strike and wrap around it. I have several that arent' that aggressive. i just leave the food item on the floor of the cage and by morning they've eaten it. I have two animals that are being finicky right now and prefer to eat live mice. One is a green tree python who is probably stressed because i recently moved her to a new enclosure. The other is a brazilian female who, for some unknown reason, has all of a sudden refused to eat frozen. At some point, I'm sure they will switch back.
