coral albino boas

Tenor Goddess Jan 14, 2007 04:53 PM

I know this has probably been asked a hundred times but I thought I found the posts....I just still don't get it.

Forgive my ignorance on this one but you never learn without asking! LOL!

So, the coral albinos...do they only come from the Kahl line and even still....are you guaranteed that breeding a coral to anything will get you hets for coral albino (or albino corals if bred to another coral albino)?
How does this gene work anyhow? It seems to my understanding that the "coral" trait shows as they age (I'm sorry, I keep forgetting the term for that)...so if you have babies born from even a coral to a coral...will all show the trait eventually? How do you know what you're getting?

Hugs and thanks for any replies!

Amanda,

Coral trait is just that it is a trait produced by selective breeding and not a gene.Pete Kahl originally came across this trait and through selective breeding enhanced and perfected it.

Other boa breeders have stumbled across it in there babies. Some say it may be tied in with the Pastel Trait.

Coral to Coral breeding does not always produce all Corals.Varying degrees of Coraling will exhist throughout the whole litter. Some may EXPRESS Tremendous amounts and other may show very little or even none. They are called LOW / HIGH expression Corals.

If you have a high expression Coral and breed it to a regular albino you are more likely get some nice Coral babies.

If you where to breed a Low expression Coral to a normal albino you are most likely get very little to no coral babies.

If you where to breed 2 Low expression Coral togeather you would most likely get nice Coral babies from that pairing.

I have also heard that a Low Expression Corals have been able to pass on Extrem Coraling to their offspring like Boa Morphs Line.

So you really never know.Very little is known about the Coral gene. How it works is still a little bit of a mystery.

I have not yet produced Corals. The information that I am passing on to you is strictly from my own studies and my TRUE LOVE for this AWESOME MORPH.

I have 2 pair of Coral Hets and still have two more years till I can breed.

Good Luck hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your post Ashley!

So when you said breeding a coral albino to a "normal" albino, is that just ANY albino (ie sharp strain or just a normal yellow type albino that we see all the time?)

I'm just asking because I wasn't sure if since it doesn't appear to be a "gene" persay but like you said, levels of expression of this trait, does it appear to coexist with the normal albinos and sharp strain albinos? It's truly a remarkable thing.

I fell for corals (can't afford any yet but the year is still young. LOL) and I cannot wait to learn more about them.

Hugs!

coral albinos only come from the kahl line , so because of that you can only breed corals to other Kahl line animals and the kahl and sharp lines are not compatable , so if you was to breed a coral to a sharp , all the babys will look like normal boas het for both strains

Amanda,

There are two types of albino the Kahl Strain and The Sharp Strain. These two albino are not compatible. When bred togeather they would produce normal looking boa's het for both strains.

Since The Corals where first produced by Pete Kahl. You have to breed a Coral to a normal everyday yellow Kahl Strain ALbino.(the majority of albino's produced are Kahl Strain).

I am not sure and don't think there is a Coral trait in or compatible with the Sharp Strain.I have never seen or heard of a Sharp Strain Coral Albino.

Like I said I too find the Coral Trait facinating and can never tire of talking about them.
