LOCALITY

If a snake comes from the same county is it the same locality.I like to get them from the same cut or the same face of a mountain or I think im breeding hybred mutts. Is this a good practice.

I'm like you. I like to breed EXACT locality animals. But it all depends on you philosophy. "Locality" depends on alot of factors. In your example of a county, it depends on the size of the county, are there impediments to movement of animals within the county, are there different geological features (e.g. rock color) in different parts of the county, etc.

If, for example, rock rattlesnakes are located on two mountain ranges in the same county, and those snakes have no way of contacting one another for breeding because they are separated by large stretches of low, flat desert, I would definately consider them different locality - even if they look similar.

If they are located on the same mountain range but are 30 miles apart, I would consider them different locality, but alot of others might not. In reality, there would likely be gene flow between those two areas. Sometimes you have to look at maps to determine what constitutes a logical "locality"

I am talking of leps .They exist on so many isolated mountain islands. That it is my theory that texas has several genetic subspices.I also belive that the purity should be maintained at all cost.I know that DNA will some day prove this beyond a shadow of a doubt. I have collected pictigaster at many locals and one strain produces 2 or 3 usualy only 1 very large offspring .Those from other locals produce 4 to as many as 8 very small offspring that are more difficult to work with.
