Rhino gender?

madwhitehat Jan 14, 2007 06:43 PM

I know this question has probably been asked before, but I couldn't find it on here, nor could I find it anywhere on the internet. I have a 3.5ft Rhino that I was told was a male when I got him over a year ago. I would like to verify this if I could. I have read something about checking the patterns on their rear legs or some non-sense. I would rather not have him probed, but if I have to do that I will. Is there any reliable dimorphism between the two genders?

At 3.5ft long, you should be able to see hemipene bulges at the base of the tail, and enlarged femoral pores on the undersides of the back legs. A picture would help.

Is this what you're talking about?

looks like a male with bulging hemipenis to me but, probing(by an expert) will be the best way to determine it, if you cannot wait until it matures a little more.
