Pittsburgh reptile and bird show...

bizkit421 Jan 14, 2007 09:45 PM

I was really disappointed... there were only 2 guys there with king snakes, and they wanted WAY to much for them... (Maybe I'm biased cause I got Spot for $15 bucks)... Everyone else had burmese pythons and boas... granted, those are nice looking sakes in their own right, just not what I was lookin for... Ended up at PetSmart to get what I need for the new Brooksi I've got comin...

I need to open my own shop... this is gettin ridiculous...

well $15 for a cali king is still cheap... I say a good cali king price is $40-$45

shows (expos) up north seem to carry a higher price than others... I paid $150 for this guy (below) in `05 only to see similar snakes for about $60 the same year in the classifieds...

I'm not complaining because I thought (and still think) he was worth it, as I have an obsession with Fl king mutations and like great quality... so I was willing to pay for it... I think it all depends on your intentions for the snakes...

to be honest what snakes are being sold for and what they are worth are two very different things that does not seem to be matching up these days.

Well, I guess the prices weren't as bad as I thought then... The one guy did have a really nice striped cal king that he wanted $35 for... If I'd have had the money for another aquarium, I'd have brought him home...

So you're tellin me I lucked into Spot for 15 huh... I always knew he was special....

You can luck onto some nice kings for 15 bucks, but usually they are'nt the quality of others. Your pics show different in your occasion though. I guess I'm glad I could'nt'nt get a ride then. Anyone have brooksi or pits or even rats?

PS: Nice snake Z.

There were a couple nice brooksi's, but nothin spectacular... but you really didn't miss a whole lot... they wanted $4 just to get in, and you could see all of it from the door... I don't know if it wasn't advertised well enough, or if everyone decided the room was too small and didn't show up...

Flamingo Gardens is a really beautiful place to host an event like this. It was twelve bucks to get in, but they have all kinds of exotic plants, bald eagles, alligators and all that Florida tourist-trap stuff from the good old days. There aren’t really many places like this left. I’ve been there many times, it is only about fifteen minutes from my house so I felt almost obligated to go check out the “Reptile Expo”. The event was in a small meeting room and there were about five exhibitors in there with animals, I think two people selling supplies and a t-shirt table. It was easy to see everything in literally two minutes. I actually went outside to see if there was another room down the building with more “stuff”. There wasn’t. It was pretty amazing how small the corns were, as if just hatched. I thought hatchlings would be a lot bigger if they were from August or so. There were a few ball pythons, and no snakes over six months old, I don’t think. All in all, I was pretty disappointed because we have so many reptile dealers and specialty reptile shops in our area. I was hoping to at least network and see about finding a couple of things I am specifically looking for. I was out of there in about four minutes flat- not worth going. That’s my impression.
