How do I remove this??

jdheff82 Jan 15, 2007 12:32 AM

Hi folks! I had a neat idea I wanted to try with my 10 gallon snake tank, but it requires that I remove my Zoo Med repti-therm UTH. The website for Zoo Med says that the UTI is permanently bonded once stuck to the tank. Has anyone had any sort of success removing these from there tank?? Thanks!

I have moved UTH before and had them still work. My experience with the zoo med UTHs is they fall off on their own. Every one that I have used does not stick well at all. I have used the T-rex heat pads and they stick so much better. If you are real careful at pulling the pads off and not breaking the fillaments and when using zoo med, do not pull the cords out of the box-part of the UTH, you should still be able to use them. I do it when they are cold, but having them warm may heat up the glue some and they may come off easier. My worry was that the heat may also cause the fillaments to be more fragile as well. Oh, and I should mention that the warning on the UTHs themselves says to not bend or break. hope this helps

just grab a corner of the pad and pull. They should come off pretty easily. I have a few I have done this with and reused.

The only two that I owned always fell off. I would think that you can just rip it off without too much trouble.

It won't help get this one off, but I read an idea once somewhere on kingsnake that has been very helpful to me.

When you get a UTH, do not stick it to the bottom of the tank. Stick it to a piece of tile instead. Then the tile can easily be moved from tank to tank.
