Ummmm, ok I'm confused, so it's not a girl and it isn't a Texas Collared??
This really really really sucks.
but since I don't post too often anymore, I didn't want to come across as egotystical. Thanks Eve for doing that for me

Yeesh, don't get me wrong folks, he/she/it is handsome/beautiful but my dismay is more directed to the local pet stores and their policies.
We spent close to 3 hours at the pet store and a phone call to another pet store that I've dealt with and went through the sexing of what the pet store I purchased Bugsy from. The store's lizard expert compared all 3 and announced that there were 2 females and one male. The collared's are being sold as Texas Collareds and are sold to the store as TC's from the suppliers.
The pet store that I purchased Bonnie & Clyde told me, "oh we get Texas Collareds all the time." Well in all the times that we've been in the store not one TC in the whole bunch. Now you would think you could get the breeders information so I could talk to them directly or even visit their facilities. I got stonewalled by both pet stores on that information and I really don't like buying things especially pets site unseen. Sure you get to see a picture but it doesn't really give a true indication of the lizard personality.
So I apologize if it seemed I was blowing up at you Eve and or anyone on these boards, you have been most helpful.
I'm just steamed at the pet industry as a whole and the fact I was certain from all that I've read, seen, studied, and relying on the Lizard Expert at the pet store that I was getting a female TC.
dismay/frustration, I'm sorry you did not get your texas female you were so excited about.
I did not feel you were jumpin on me,
I was just telling you this was not a texas female.
He is an awesome male I will say that. Try and get a closer pic of his color, if ya can.
These guys are sometimes called desert collareds, but never texas collareds. I have a whole page of texas collareds male and females, link below for you to check out.

Don't be bummed, it happens all the time, some people just do not know the differences, and try and sell them as something else. Most do not know how to sex them either.
You got an awesome male. Are you keeping him ? Get a nice female for him.

I dealt with a petstore called Pet Adventure, from what I have seen how they dealt with Bearded Dragons I have a definite issue with how they house their reptiles. I didn't go with the most robust as well it was a definite "HE" the other one had developed an eye injury in the week since our last visit.
Lol, I'll try to get him a female and a bigger cage, he's in a 20gallon cage right now and I was supposed to place him in with Bonnie and Clyde up until the sex correction. Now to explain to my wife about the need for another cage and a trip to Reptile Depot who hasn't steered me wrong.
Should be fine for him, even a pair for awhile. Of course bigger is always better, but a 20 long works. How big is he?
In the pic he looks like maybe a yearling

He's 8 inches long, no clue on the weight as I don't have that type of scale available.
Just have to finish decorating it, all my decorations were ice cold from the freeze we are experiencing out here in SoCal.
Ok, that's great to know that I won't have to upgrade to a larger cage. Though on a side note there is a chance that we might be getting one of the cage setups from CagesByDesign depending on tax season, we shall see.
Hello Boost,
Not to beat a dead horse hear, but your collared is a young male Bicintores collared lizard. As My friend Eve put it commonly called a desert collared. Judging by your photo's in the gallery that lizard is more then likely a wild caught hold over from the early fall. Also judging by your photo that lizard is a Great Basin Desert Collared lizard probably collected from Nevada, where the majority of wc pet trade collareds derive from. Mojave Desert and Arizona bicintores have a different look to them, and if you purchased from a pet store most wholsalers that they buy from get there collareds from collectors in Nevada. I also want to mention that Bicintores collared lizards are illegal to sell in California because they are considered a native species. Since they occur in both California and Nevada. I only brought this up because you mentioned Reptile Depot for cage purchasing, which I know is in California. Most pet stores have know idea when it comes to collared lizards ie: recognizing actual species or even how to set them up properly. I'll give you an example: Back in 2000 I walked into a popular Southern California reptile store and to my surprise I saw a 20 gallon terrarium housing approx. 20 collareds, half of which were native binctores collareds. I brought this to the shop owners attention (he had no idea) and he promptly took them of display and contacted his wholsaler describing the situation. I'm not trying to rattle the cage hear but if your a petstore owner selling to joe public, you should at least be knowledgeable enough to know exactly what it is your selling.
ps. the colored dewlap under any adult or sub adult collareds chin which is very visible in your pics, is always going to be a male. Especially one as dark as the one you posted in you your pic. Female Eastern collareds Crotaphytus Collaris(texas collared) will have a black dot generally on either side of there vent which is visible from hatchling size in most cases. I hope this helps....

Yeah I agree its a male, but a really cool look one at that. You should be very happy with that dude romping around. If you can afford it get a 40gal tank from him. He'll thank you for it!
